Monday was the last home game for the Lady Cavs, which made it senior night and the girls played with heart and soul. The Heritage Lady Patriots were sent home after an impressive 71-24 defeat.
Senior night was celebrated with the senior player’s parents walking hand-in-hand with their daughter onto the court, under a balloon arch, accompanied by a life-size cut-out of each senior player. Even team captain, Aubrey Holle, from 2007-08 state championship team made a special visit to introduce the seniors and make it a great night.
Tabitha Gerardot tipped the ball to the Cavs and the game began. The girls breezed down the court, scoring 5 points in under three minutes. Senior Cassie Kreiger made two perfect 3-pointers in the first quarter. This was definitely a promising start.
In the second quarter, seniors Molly Sekar and Cassie Kreiger and freshman Bailey Farley showed excellent offense which paid off with a 47-7 score at half time. The crowd was roaring for the girls.
Near the end of the last quarter, each senior player was removed, one at a time, for her last time playing at Canterbury High School. Each girl hugged every one her teammates as she made her way down to her seat; a final farewell. Senior Paige Wells scored a total of 6 pts, Sekar had a total of 5 pts, Kreiger had 13 pts, and Gerardot held her own with 24 pts. It was truly a memorable night, and a victorious one for the Lady Cavs.
