From the beginning, it was clear to the crowd that the Lady Cavs would dominate yet another game on Thursday night. The Cavalier girls sent the Fremont Lady Eagles home without a win, after defeating them 83-46.
Senior Tabitha Gerardot tipped the ball to the Cavs at the beginning of the 1st quarter. The girls played at a fast pace but maintained their control of the game, with a clever inside pass from senior Paige Wells to Gerardot, and later with a 3-pointer also by Wells. Junior Madison Moyle started out strong in defense, and the quarter ended with Canterbury leading 16-10.
The Cavs opened up the 2nd quarter with several layups and a 3-pointer by junior Becky Pedro. Wells, Gerardot, senior Cassie Kreiger, and freshman Bailey Farley had several steals, and senior Molly Sekar made her mark on the court with a beautiful 3-pointer from the left side with 14 seconds left in the half, bringing the score to 42-17, Cavs.
While the Eagles began to slow down, the Cavs kept up their energetic pace. Kreiger scored a 3-pointer from the right side and sunk several free throws. Pedro had a few more steals and the Cavs brought the 3rd quarter score to 67-29, Cavs.
The Canterbury girls didn’t miss a beat in the 4th quarter when the starting lineup took a seat on the bench to cheer on their other teammates. Farley and juniors Julia Hyndman and Jordan Fisher scored points from the free throw line, and Fisher sunk another 3-pointer for the Lady Cavs. Freshman Bryanna Moore went in fast and hard for the layup with 3 seconds left on the clock, and brought the score to a Canterbury victory of 83-46.
The top scorers of the night were Tabitha Gerardot, 21 points; Paige Wells, 16 points; and Cassie Kreiger and Bailey Farley, 10 points. The fans seemed to be especially impressed by Wells’ performance on the court, both defensively and offensively, and hope to see her do it again at next Monday’s home game at 7:30 against Heritage. That night will be the team’s last home game of the year, so all senior Lady Cavalier players will be honored on senior night.
