The swim team celebrated senior night Tuesday at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium at South Side with a huge victory for the boys’ team and a close second-place finish for the girls’ team against Bishop Luers and Wayne.
The night started off with a quick presentation of gifts to the 12 seniors on the swim team, commemorating both their time on the swim team and their four years at Canterbury. Following the short ceremony, the 12 seniors and the remaining swim team members took to the pool for warm-ups before the first event.
The boys started their competition with a tone-setting showing in the first several events, dominating all stages of the races and dropping only a few events to Bishop Luers and Wayne.
The girls, while still just as strong, started off at a disadvantage to Luers because of the two divers that added points for Luers while Canterbury had no divers. However, the girls’ team pulled back and ended up close to the Luers team at the end of the meet.
At the end of the night, the Canterbury had a dominating performance, winning with a combined score of Canterbury 272, Luers 167, and Wayne 95. The boys’ team contributed 150 of Canterbury’s points while the girls’ team added another 122.
