Senior guard Andy Ottenweller has officially committed to continue his basketball career at Division III New York University in the fall, making him the 3rd Cavalier boys basketball player in 4 years to join the college ranks after graduation. The girls program has also had 3 players in the past 3 years play in college (Stacia Gerardot — Manchester, Aubrey Holle — Centre, Megan King — College of Charleston). Tuesday’s girls tennis match against Leo, a rescheduled match from earlier this season, has been cancelled due to a conflict.

The girls softball team has added a game on Thursday evening at Fremont at 5 p.m.

Despite the girls softball team’s unfortunate home loss, many of the individual players contributed to the game in a positive way, as well as the entire developing team, which worked hard and played with passion.

On Wednesday the Canterbury baseball team suffered a disappointing loss to the Bluffton Tigers, 15-3. The loss drops the Cavaliers to 1-3 on the season and with such high expectations coming into the year, the slow start is certainly below what they expected. “With all of the hype surrounding the team coming into the season, the slow start is a disappointment, but we are confident that we can bounce back,” sophomore catcher Will Salon said.

For the second time in five days, Mother Nature has stifled Pat McMahon’s baseball team’s best efforts to get a game in. Tuesday afternoon’s game against Harding has been washed out, and no makeup date has been announced. The team’s next game is scheduled for Thursday at Wayne. Stay tuned to the sports blog for status updates on that game throughout the week.

One sign that spring is upon us is opening day in baseball, and for Canterbury, that day was Saturday. Behind strong pitching and clutch hitting, the Cavaliers rallied from a 2-0 deficit after 2 innings to knock off Churubusco 4-2. Junior Zach Kacprowicz started and went four innings, and sophomore Danny McMahon earned the win with 3 scoreless innings to finish the game. McMahon and Dalton Pais each had doubles in the game, and Canterbury played errorless defense to open the year on a high note. The schedule kicks into high gear for the Cavaliers this week, with games at home on Tuesday (4:30 pm, Harding) and Saturday (12pm, North Side) and a short road trip to Wayne on Thursday (4:30 pm).

Friday’s baseball game, scheduled for 5pm, has been called off due to bad weather and poor field conditions. No makeup date has been announced. Saturday’s game against Churubusco is scheduled for 1pm (not 11am, as listed on HighSchoolSports.net) at Canterbury, and will be played as scheduled unless further notice is given.
