It figured that in order to win a second consecutive state championship, Canterbury would eventually have to prove that they can play without Tabitha Gerardot. That moment came late in the state title game on Saturday, when the junior forward fouled out with 25 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the Lady Cavaliers trailing #1 Vincennes Rivet, 61-57.

The Lady Cavaliers got their first look at the venue for Saturday’s state finals game when they practiced at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday afternoon. Head coach Scott Kreiger put the Lady Cavs through their paces and devoted extra time to helping the girls get used to an unusual shooting background.

Canterbury’s girls basketball team has advanced to the state finals for the second consecutive year. Head coach Scott Kreiger and his team have earned the chance to defend last year’s Class A state championship, and will play Class A #1 Vincennes Rivet on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Boys basketball sectionals are underway at Blackhawk Christian, and Canterbury’s boys advanced to Friday night’s semifinals by defeating Hamilton 66-43 on Tuesday evening. Click through for results and the remaining schedule.
