The #14 Canterbury Lady Cavaliers continued their run through the state tennis tournament Saturday morning with a 4-1 victory over Marion in the first match of the Concordia semistate. Anna Rao (#2 singles) and Caitlin Sullivan (#3 singles) swept to 6-1, 6-1 victories, while the #1 doubles team of Courtney Scott and Caroline Wright earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Rachel Horton and Chloe Hoffacker rallied to win in 3 sets at #2 doubles, where they triumped 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Canterbury’s #1 singles player, sophomore Claire Liles, was knocked off by Marion’s Kristen Futrell, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The victory means that the Lady Cavaliers will play #5 Zionsville for the chance to travel to Indianapolis for next weekend’s state finals. That match will occur Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Zollner Tennis Complex across the street from Concordia Lutheran High School. Results and pictures will be posted after the match.
