The start time for Canterbury’s boys baseball game at Woodlan on May 12, 2008 has changed. The game has been listed on official schedules as starting at 4:30 p.m.; that time has been corrected to 5:00 p.m. The game will still be played at Woodlan.

The girls softball home opener against New Haven, originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Canterbury, has been postponed due to poor field conditions. The game has yet to be rescheduled. The softball team will now open their season on the road at South Side on Tuesday, April 15 at 4:15 p.m.

The winter athletics awards breakfast will take place this Wednesday morning, March 12, at 7:00 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. Athletes from the boys and girls basketball teams, and the boys and girls swimming teams, will be recognized.

The meeting for parents of athletes participating in a spring sport is tonight, Monday March 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Please remember that this meeting is mandatory for parents, but athletes are not expected to attend.

Fresh off leading the Lady Cavaliers to the school’s first state championship in a girls sport, Canterbury senior point guard Aubrey Holle has been invited to participate in one of the state’s most prestigious basketball events for high school girls.

“Well it sure wasn’t a work of art, I’ll tell you that†said Coach Scott Kreiger in the post-game press conference. The Lady Cavaliers’ (21-5) first trip to the IHSAA Class A finals led to their “first half jitters,†said freshman Becky Pedro. It may have been that the fans were seated so far away from the court that “the sound of the crowd was different…it was a dull roar†according to sophomore Tabitha Gerardot, or it could have been the fact that it was many of the players’ first time in Conseco Fieldhouse. Canterbury looked sloppy on offense to start against University (20-7) as they did not score a basket until 5:30 passed in the game and made only two out of twelve shots in the first quarter.

Andy Ottenweller and Marquel Cooper led a furious third-quarter comeback, but Canterbury was never able to get over the hump and ended up falling against Blackhawk Christian in the final of the Hamilton sectional Monday night by a score of 71-45.

The Canterbury boys basketball team has advanced to the final game of the Hamilton Sectional, which was rescheduled from Saturday to tonight as a result of the girls basketball team’s participation in the state finals.
