The Canterbury Lady Cavaliers departed for Indianapolis on Friday morning, on their way to the school’s first appearance by a girls team in the state finals in any sport. Stay tuned throughout the day as the Canterbury School Sports Blog provides photos and updates from Indianapolis. (Special thanks to Fran Pasalich for her photo contribution from Friday morning’s pep rally)

Four Canterbury players scored in double figures, and the Cavs used a 28-point third quarter to pull away from Keystone on Monday night in the opening round of the Hamilton boys basketball sectional.

Freshman Jason Williams led the Cavaliers with 18 points, while his classmate Nick Lewis scored 17. Junior forward Andy Ottenweller had 14 points, and senior guard Zach Tomlinson ensured that his career will last at least one more game by adding 13 points.

With the win, Canterbury advances to the semifinal of the Hamilton sectional, which will be played on Friday night. The Cavaliers will take on Lakewood Park at 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton High School.

After knocking out the number one and two teams in Class A in regionals, Canterbury continued its state run Saturday with a 63-40 semistate win over Southern Wells.

Cassie Kreiger exploded for 19 points, and Canterbury’s strong second-half defense turned a close game into a rout as the Lady Cavaliers defeated Southern Wells 60-43 to win the Plymouth Semistate on Saturday afternoon at Plymouth High School.

With the win, the 2007-08 Lady Cavaliers become the first Canterbury girls team in any sport to advance to the state finals.

Look for more information through the afternoon today and throughout the upcoming week leading up to next Saturday’s state final game at Conseco Fieldhouse.
