The Canterbury boys basketball team returned to the court Friday, three days before returning to school from the winter holiday, but was unable to shake off the rust early in either of their two games at the Columbia City Shootout. The Cavaliers fell to Columbia City in the morning game, 39-36, and dropped the nightcap against Homestead, 71-59.

Tabitha Gerardot notched her 6th double-double in 8 games this season, and the Lady Cavaliers’ pressing defense was dominant as Canterbury knocked off Bethany Christian 65-34 Saturday afternoon at home.

A year ago, the Canterbury Lady Cavaliers heralded their top-notch schedule as one of the most important factors in preparing them for a postseason run to the Class A state championship. The same challenging slate of games is in order in 2008-09, and the Lady Cavs kicked off the most difficult stretch of their season with a 78-33 loss against state #18 South Side.

Senior guard Andy Ottenweller scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter, and Canterbury’s boys basketball team pulled away from the Hamilton Marines after the break en route to a 75-56 blowout win Tuesday night at home.
